A shared series name does not mean every module has the same electrical behavior. Two products may run the same control program or fit the same platform while requiring different cabinet supplies, accepting different field signals, or switching very different loads. The complete order number therefore matters as much as the family name. Three SM 1223 variants can serve very different circuits24 V DC input + transistor output: efficient and fast for DC loads, but polarity and output-current limits must be respected.
24 V DC input + relay output: slower mechanical switching, but the dry-contact output can accommodate a broader range of supported AC or DC load circuits.
120/230 V AC input + relay output: designed for higher-voltage field signals; it is not a drop-in substitute for a 24 V DC input module.
